Gun Sales No More

“Guns & Gold Bought & Sold” that was the slogan of Loanstar Jewelry and Pawn. That is until today. Employees came to work to find the owner Frank James removing the signs. He sat the employees down wearing a green and white ribbon on his chest his 6 year old daughter made for him and explained he would no longer be selling firearms because of what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary. He said “I cannot hang on my wall the make and model AR15 that was used to kill children in a massacre.” When the store manager questioned this change in policy he explained, “I believe in 2nd amendment rights and I believe people should be allowed to have weapons but I do not want a gun we sell to fall into the wrong hands.” The licensed FFL dealer is required to conduct a background check and hold the weapon for 3 business days. Mr. James says he turns down more gun sales because he just did not feel “right” about the person but, if a 50 something mother of 2 came in to buy a gun he would have sold it to her and that is something he will not have on his conscious. While there will be many conversations and debates about gun laws in this local business the decision is clear. “I will not risk the life of a child to make a dollar.” said Mr. James.

Corpus Christi police: Man grabs wrench inside pawnshop, pawns it back to store

— Corpus Christi police are looking for a man who grabbed a wrench from a table in a pawnshop Monday, ripped off the price tag and sold it back to the store.
Officers were called to the shop about 1:15 p.m. in the 1700 block of Airline Road after reports of a theft.
The store's manager said a man came into the store carrying a saw and while waiting to pawn the tool, grabbed a torque wrench from a nearby table and decided to pawn it as well, police said.
Employees were able to identify the man who left the store after the transaction, police said.
Detectives from the police department's property crime unit are investigating.

Pawn of the week... Holy Bible!

Today I decided to start showing you a pawn of the week. It may be an antique it may be brand new but it is always something interesting. So today's pawn of the week  is... drum roll please... The Holy Bible! No I am not kidding. I come into work today to see a small tag from our computer system. Upon closer inspection I see that the item pawned was a Holy Bible with Salvador Dali pictures inside. Now I would like to bring you all a picture of it but because it is a valuable family item it was placed in the vault for safety. It is sad in some ways that such a precious item had to be pawned but then I had to smile at the Big Boss when I saw him loan the money because at least now the family has what they need.  I have to just sit back and smile when some of these unique items come in and feel a since of pride that we were able to help people.
If we ( more correctly I ) don't have to feed it chances are the Big Boss or myself will try and lend money on it.

Ronald Mc Donald and the Truck

Whenever I come into work it is a new and different experience. So I walk in still sipping my coffee and was greeted by the Ronald Mc Donald helium head. Okay for those of you around my age you will remember going to Mc Donald's and getting a balloon, the helium came out of a Ronald Mc Donald head through his mouth. Well, don't ask me where he bought it but the Big Boss now has one for sale. But until it is sold he was nice enough to place it on the shelf  behind my computer so Ronald is always watching me. But it gets better I leave for a few minutes today and come back and see my parking space has been taken by a large freightliner commercial flat bed truck... he took my parking spot and 5 others. Now at anyplace else I would have been upset but here I have to question, is this an item we now own. The answer is no it is not, but we did loan money on it. Some days I wonder but at least I can smile while I shake my head in disbelief.

How does a pawn shop work?

Pawnbrokers lend money on items of value ranging from gold and diamond jewelry to musical instruments, electronics, tools, unique collectibles, etc.. These items maintain their value over a reasonable period of time and are easy to store, especially jewelry. The biggest Pro to Pawning an item is simple "CASH on the SPOT." You leave your item and walk out with money for other needs. This is a simple transaction and the customer gets there items back once the loan plus interest is paid. So if I come in and need $100.00 until pay day I could bring in an item, tell the pawnbroker how much I need and then see if the pawnbroker could complete the loan for me. I would then have 60 days to pick up the item. However if I could not repay the loan then I could simply come in each month and pay the interest. My item would be held securely in a vault until I could pay for it in full.
Simple, safe, easy, quick, and confidential.
